Lukas's eyes

Classic champagne dun Lukas has one amber and one blue eye. Champagne horses are born with whitish or bright blue eyes which gradually turn hazel or amber as the horse matures. Amber colored eyes (like that on the right hand side photo) are typical of horses with the champagne dilution gene.  Although blue eyes are associated with the cream (but not dun) dilution here they are due to Lukas being patterned (tobiano and overo). Some horses may have minimal patterning, which is less obvious at a casual observation.

A special thank you to Tara of Rising Moon Ranch, Scottsdale, Arizona for sharing this and the other photos of her superb and unusual horses (see main champagne page for more). Lukas will be one of two classic dun (grullo champagne) stallions at stud.
